Non stop worship and prayer.
Countless languages. . . we gathered in Northern Iraq to build an altar. To build a throne for King Jesus to sit upon that His righteousness and justice might flow like a river through the land of Iraq. Picture a room packed with voices singing as loud as they can asking for the Lord to pour out His Spirit upon this beautiful land, night and day. . .day and night. In a nation that the world sees through the eyes of fear and terror, God gathered many from all over Northern Iraq, cities in different countries in the Middle East, Europe and the West to partner with His eyes and His ways for Kurdistan.
What a picture of heaven as different nationalities representing different backgrounds and cultures gathering in unity building a throne to Jesus all singing in their native language. Sets in English, sets in Arabic, sets in Kurdish, all singing the same thing, “There is only one found worthy.” We got to see a picture of Revelation 5 this past week.
“And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
After six weeks of traveling throughout Northern Iraq, praying and worshiping in every place we went, meeting with many different workers, organizations, spending time in camps, loving on children in schools. . . we are FULLY convinced that now is the time for Kurdistan. Now is the time for laborers to be sent here. Now is the time to get on our hands and knees in the dirt of this land and beckon the King and build Him an altar here that He may rest upon.
Isaiah 62:1,6 says, “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not be quiet, until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, and her salvation as a burning torch. On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.”
The crisis is so real, the magnitude of the need is so great, and to so many people, spending 100 hours wasted at the feet of Jesus is an ineffective way to use our time. In light of a worldwide crisis, many who are in need, and a world renown terrorist group 45 min away, it may seem completely foolish that we are even here. That, on top of that, we would be spending our time singing. But we believe that God is raising up watchmen on walls here. That this is our warfare. He is raising up Mary’s who will spill out their time and their costly oil at His feet. . . and in return He is pouring out His oil that is the oil that heals this land.
As Light A Candle, we are committing ourselves to being some of those watchmen and to raising up those watchmen with the indigenous sound for this country. We feel God has called us here to love the poor, care for the needy, share the Good News and to sing and keep on singing. This 100 hours is first of many here in this beautiful nation. It was incredible watching so many locals get involved and hearing their songs and sounds unleashed!
I am reminded of a story from this trip. We were in a camp with incredible Yazidi families, and there we pulled out our guitar and ukulele and began to sing and play with the children. I saw a group of women and wanted to sit with them and play some worship. I began to sing with them and all of a sudden I look beside me and one of the little girls came up to me with her tiny half broken guitar that she didn’t know how to play. . she was probably 3 years old. She began to open her mouth and sing a beautiful melody. I was actually quite shocked at the sound that came out! She just began to sing one word only, and that was the name of her city she used to live in before ISIS came. As she sung I began to feel the Lord’s heart and could feel Him leaning in a little closer listening intently. In her simplicity I started imagining the power of this little displaced girl’s song healing a once broken land. I felt Jesus speak softly to me in that moment saying, “These are the songs I want to raise up in this land. I am going to raise up songs of healing out of brokenness and despair. Songs of deliverance.”
As we burned during the 100 hours, I kept seeing her and those like her. It really is time!
More trip updates to come!
